Simrishamn 900 years

The exhibition reflects its 900-year history from many different perspectives - as a herring town, merchant town and tourist town. In the exhibition room on the second floor, the town is spread out between the countryside to the west and the sea to the east. Here you can meet the town's inhabitants and learn more about events and development through objects, texts and films. The themes depicted are Fishing and Shipping, Church and Power, War and Disasters, Trade and Merchants, Children and Young People, Crafts and Industry, Entertainment and Tourism. The time perspective is the 1100s to the 1900s. Free admission.

Discover with Nim and Nälla

Together with illustrator Jenny Hargne, we have created a children's trail for the exhibition Simrishamn 900 years. The children follow the cat-inspired characters Nim and Nälla through the exhibition. Nim has patience and likes to tell stories. Nälla likes mischief and has dressed up as a seagull. Through illustrations, short texts, crafts and puzzles, children are encouraged to take part in the exhibition and discover the history of Simrishamn. The aim is to stimulate curiosity and the desire to learn. The target group is children aged 4 - 10. Free admission.

The essence of Österlen

NOTE! CLOSED due to remodelling. Reopens 1 December. It is perhaps not surprising that the mythical landscape of southern Skåne has given rise to its own legends and legends. From the wooded, lush hills at Stenshuvud to the barren fishing villages and quietly resting fields, it is easy to understand how different senses and fantasies can be triggered. Dare you follow Gloson? Animated film and fairy tales for young and old about some of our eastern creatures. The film is shown in our cinema on the 1st floor.

Manage the crisis!

Do you know what your pet needs in case of a crisis? What do you need to have on standby for your pet in case the power goes out or you need to take your pet away from home? The non-profit organisation Svenska Blå Stjärnan has developed emergency preparedness checklists for both people and pets. The checklists form the basis of the exhibition "Ready for crisis!" where visitors can playfully familiarise themselves with preparedness for the family pet. The exhibition is especially designed for children and anyone with a playful spirit. "Ready for the crisis!" runs until 16 November. Free admission.

Welcome to the programme! Democracy for adults

Here you step right into the reality of adult life. In a workplace and in a home, you will learn how our habitual behaviour patterns affect us when we take in and share information. When we are exposed to influence attempts, we are often triggered. With a better understanding of how we work, we can become more aware internet users and better sources for each other. All to strengthen our society and democracy and reduce the risk of falling for disinformation and biased messages. Welcome in - Democracy for adults is produced by Arbetets museum with the support of the Swedish Psychological Defence Agency, MPF, in collaboration with TCO, LO, Region Östergötland and Norrköping Municipality. Free admission. The exhibition opens 19/10 and runs until 16/11.

Björkegrenska shipping office

A mini-museum in Björkegrenska gården, Storgatan 22, Simrishamn.
Österlen Museum has restored the old Björkgren shipping office, as it probably looked in the 1880s during the time of shipowner Johan Daniel Björkegren. Shipping operations began as early as the late 1830s with shipping along the coasts of the Baltic Sea. Gradually, the business expanded towards Europe and further across the Atlantic to South and North America. The restoration of the shipping office has been carried out in co-operation with the Herrlin Foundation and the Old Cimbrishamn Association, with funding from the Swedish National Heritage Board. The shipping office is open for visits Saturday 2/11 at 16-18. Free admission.

Harvesting rainwater

"Harvesting Rainwater" is an installation in the museum's garden created together with Eva Mathiasson, Sophia Callmer and Susanna Widlundh. It shows how rainwater can be collected, stored and used to create sustainable gardens and a better environment for ourselves and future generations. In collaboration with Samhällsbyggnadsförvaltningen Gata & Park and with funding from Sparbanken Syd. During the year, more installations will be displayed in the museum garden. Free admission.
