After 36 years at the helm of the furniture factory in Gärsnäs, which his grandfather started in 1893, he sold the company at the turn of the millennium. During his years, the company evolved from Sweden's leading period furniture manufacturer to the country's foremost industry for well-designed wooden furniture. This led to prestigious deliveries such as: The Swedish Parliament, the National Museum, Riddarhuset, Rosenbad and the headquarters of leading Swedish companies such as Asea, Astra and Volvo as well as all Swedish embassies,
His next career in the 2nd century was as an Egyptologist with 33 trips to Egypt with 900 travellers and three books on the subject. Leif Hjärre organised the Nobel section at the new library in Alexandria.
He co-founded the Gösta Werner Society in 1980 and was its chairman for the first 40 years, then vice-chairman. His fourth book is entitled: "Österlenskt och Österländskt". He has performed at the Cairo Opera and was a summer presenter on Radio P1 in 2003.
